And for the very last time this season I get to say… tonight the Toronto Marlies take on their AHL rival, Hamilton.

Wow, does twelve games ever go by fast. Fourteen if you include preseason.

Barring a miraculous rise to a playoff position by the Bulldogs, Tuesday will be the final meeting between the two teams until the 2013/14 season commences in October. The season may not have had the flash of the outdoor game, but it certainly was filled with its fair share of drama.

The latest in the rivalry series has dropped.

Centring around the premise that a singular team’s success fuels rivalry, this edition of Rivalry: Marlies/Bulldogs walks through the post-season success that both the Toronto and Hamilton teams have found in recent years. In my five seasons covering the Marlies, I don’t think I have ever seen anything that came close to today’s game versus Hamilton.

And don’t get me wrong, I’ve seen some crazy things in my time.

There was the running over of James Reimer and subsequent four goal third period to lead the Marlies past the Senators in November 2009. I also remember a nutty third period against the Grand Rapids Griffins, one that saw more penalty minutes in the final ten minutes than some teams see in a month.
