After a first round sweep of the Western Conference Quarter Finals, here is a little Marlies info to wet your whistle before round 2.

Toronto’s 3-2 overtime win in-game 3 of the 1st round vs Rochester provided them with a sweep over the Americans in the first round, for the second straight post-season. Marlies forward Will Acton was the hero scoring  at the 5:14 mark of the 20 minute extra frame. When it was all said and done, Toronto had 14 skaters pick up at least a point in the opening ...

Even in the last game of the regular season, the Marlies had a 1st to celebrate. Tyler Biggs recorded his 1st AHL/Pro goal with the 1st tally of the game vs St. John’s. Biggs collected 26 this past season with the Generals in the OHL and had 9 with Miami of Ohio one year before in the NCAA. The former Maple Leaf’s 1st round pick became the 9th Marlie player this season to record his 1st AHL goal in the 2012-2013 campaign. Congrats, Tyler!

Welcome aboard! The Toronto Marlies have lowered the ramp and a mass of talent has formed a crew of young guns trying to make their mark in the AHL. Following in the skate strides of Rielly, Sparks, Broll and Percy are other CHL grads Tyler Biggs (Oshawa-OHL) and Joshua Leivo (Sudbury/Kitchener-OHL) to go along with a captain last year in the NCAA – Andrew MacWilliam (North Dakota).

Following the NHL trade deadline, Toronto’s hockey teams rosters have remained in tact. In fact, the AHL version has grown, following the completion of playoff runs in the CHL. A trio of OHL’ers have migrated to the American Hockey League to join the Marlies.

Garret Sparks played 60 of his club’s 68 games this season. While with the Guelph Storm, Sparks put up 36 regular season wins to lead the OHL and  to go along with a .917 save

percentage. The Elmhurst, Illinois native also finished first in that league in minutes ...

It was no ordinary trip through the Midwest division for the Toronto Marlies this past weekend. The group of games through Chicago, Milwaukee and Peoria represented numbers 3,4 and 5 of 7 straight away from Ricoh Coliseum and also brought the total number of states visited to 4 during the stretch of travel/games. However, those are not even the cool stats! The game against the Wolves, followed up by the game vs the Admirals represented to milestone moments for a pair of young Marlies.

Sam Carrick has played hockey in the Toronto area for a long time. The 21-year-old played his entire OHL career in Brampton, totalling almost 300 games with the Battalion. After a stint with Idaho in the ECHL, the Stouffville native returned home to play his 1st AHL game in his own backyard.
