I was always a fan of TV mini-series.

A television show (sitcom, drama or otherwise) which ran a half season would consist of 13 episodes. To put that into context; including two preseason meetings, the Toronto Marlies will face the Hamilton Bulldogs 14 times between October and April. This has enough content to be a prime-time Emmy award winner.

QEW rivals Toronto and Hamilton square off in their first of 14 meetings – which also happens to kick off both of their preseason schedules – Saturday at 7:00pm in Cobourg.

A line of 175 people draws attention in even the most usual places on the most usual of days.

Now dress them in maroon and white jerseys in midday heat reaching well into the seventies. At this point both my empathy and intrigue go through the roof.

It was the return trip to Hamilton on January 27th that offered a true chance for reflection on what was an experience of a lifetime: being part of the 1st Canadian AHL outdoor classic game. Nearly one week prior it was a bus taking the Toronto Marlies to Ivor Wynne stadium, rather than Copps Coliseum and although the battle of Ontario in the American Hockey League never gets old, outside of a playoff series the pinnacle may have been reached on a perfect Saturday afternoon.
