Toronto vs San Antonio - Ryan Hamilton

It’s been quite the week for Ricoh regulars and Marlies faithful alike.

I’ll delve into the individual accomplishments in a minute, but first I think it’s appropriate to just appreciate the past ten games for the Marlies. Despite key injuries, the club has put up a 7-2-1-0 record. Without a team effort, individual success is quite tough – and generally appreciated somewhat less.

Following a rough start after a shortened offseason, the club broke out the steam roller and is tackling every obstacle thrown its way. The Marlies now sit […]

Toronto vs Texas - Ryan Hamilton

It may be four days and counting until Santa comes to town, but for the Marlies it’s only two.

Friday will be the club’s second last game ahead of the Christmas break, both contests against teams that – at least according to the standings – appear conquerable. The first, a rare Friday night contest at home, will feature a San Antonio team that presently resides in the league’s basement with only 23 points.

Conversely the Marlies, with two wins this weekend, could tie division leader Abbotsford.

Hear are my notes ahead […]

Toronto vs Lake Erie - Jake Gardiner, Mike Zigomanis, Brad Ross

It’s going to be tight.

It’s a fact of today’s American Hockey League that head coach Dallas Eakins has been reminding his team of all along. It has also become a reoccurring theme during his post-game public address to the media.

Wednesday’s game in Cleveland against the Monsters demonstrates this perfectly.

Lake Erie sits in the 13th spot of 15 teams in the AHL’s Western Conference. With a glance down the standings, Lake Erie’s 26 points is only two back of an 8th place poll position. One win. A jump to […]

Toronto vs Grand Rapids - Jussi Rynnas

Usually I’m game for coincidental stats. But this time I’m not too hot on it.

The Marlies are coming off a 4-3 shootout win. It’s only the second time they have seen the shootout this season. The first time was a Sunday home game against Grand Rapids. A contest the Griffins won 4-3.

Do you see what I’m talking about? A little close for comfort.

That said, I’m all about turning a new leaf; putting past demons behind me; and improving on lessons learned. I don’t expect the Marlies to take […]

Toronto vs Rochester - Ben Scrivens

Counting down the Marlies top five plays of the week:

#5 – Brad Ross deflects the puck past the netminder for his first professional hockey league goal

#4 – Korbinian Holzer dishes out a punishing hit

#3 – Ryan Hamilton walks out from the corner and backhands it for a goal

#2 – Ben Scrivens makes a diving save against Rochester’s Verone

#1 – Greg McKegg picks the far corner and opens a floodgate of bears which pour onto the ice

There ya have it. The top five plays. Love ‘em? Hate ‘em? Let me know. […]

Toronto vs Rochester - Will Acton

Haven’t had enough of the Americans yet? Well then, you’ve come to the right place.

For the fourth time in two weeks the Marlies will take on divisional foe Rochester. The good news? the previous three have resulted in wins. In fact, including the first round playoff series between the two clubs, Toronto has defeated their Rochester rival in nine straight games. How’s that for a streak?

But unlike the meetings of late, Rochester heads into Saturday’s contest with the confidence of two straight victories behind them. One being to […]
