Toronto vs Hamilton

We all have new year’s resolutions, right?

Even if we don’t write them down or announce them in front of a group, I’m sure we all make them. Perhaps it’s buying a house, getting a promotion, hitting the gym or something as simple as trying one thing new. I think we all make them.

If I were to draw up the Marlies resolution for the new year it would look something like this:

Don’t Change a Thing!

The Toronto club sits atop of the Western Conference, tied with Charlotte but holding three ...

Toronto vs Hamilton - Joe Colborne, Matt Frattin, Paul Ranger

I picture a director with his black and white striped clapper in hand. Written on it are the words ‘Toronto vs Hamilton’ and the man in charge yells “take seven” before bringing forth a sound from the instrument worthy of its name.

It is one week to the day since these two clubs last met, a game far more one-sided than the 3-2 score let on. Toronto scored three consecutive goals before allowing one against. A fluke shot with a second left then banked in past Scrivens ...

Toronto vs Grand Rapids - Will Acton

I never really liked road games.

I understand they’re necessary but there’s nothing that can compare to rolling into a familiar rink, getting some fresh popcorn and taking in some afternoon puck. However, if you were to look outside my window right now you would get why I’m thankful the Marlies are closing out 2012 in Grand Rapids.

Yepp, I said it. Closing out 2012. It’s the last game for the Marlies in the calendar year.

I’m almost sad to see it go. Think of all the incredible things that 2012 ...

Toronto vs Grand Rapids - Keith Aucoin

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.

When you look at the stats, things couldn’t be better for the Marlies. They have the league’s best record over the past 10, capturing 17 of a possible 20 points. Goal scoring has come with apparent ease, notching three or more in 10 of the last 11. Goaltender has secured four consecutive wins while Jussi Rynnas is yet to lose in regulation.

At the same time, the the bumps and bruises to the Toronto club seem to be ...

Toronto vs Hamilton - Jake Gardiner and Leo Komarov

If you’re anything like me, you adore tradition.

It’s what huddles us all together during the holiday time even if it means sleeping in a bed at your parents place you outgrew years ago or eating that fruit cake that you don’t really like. It’s watching the first game of the World Junior Championship on Boxing Day, even if it means waking up at 4am.

December 26th brings another hockey spectacle. Since 2007 the Marlies have met a divisional foe in what I like to call (well.. what I stole from former ...

Toronto vs San Antonio - Spencer Abbot, Mike Kostka, Ryan Hamilton, Keith Aucoin

I usually have some sort of fancy opening relating hockey to life, or to the time of year, or perhaps just a few words attempting wit. Today all I’m going to open with is 7-2-1-0.

That is the Marlies record over the last ten games. At the moment it’s the second best in the league. By the end of the day, a win could bring the team the league’s best record over the past ten as well as the division’s top spot. Abbotsford, who presently hold the first place ...
