Toronto vs Texas - Ryan Hamilton

It may be four days and counting until Santa comes to town, but for the Marlies it’s only two.

Friday will be the club’s second last game ahead of the Christmas break, both contests against teams that – at least according to the standings – appear conquerable. The first, a rare Friday night contest at home, will feature a San Antonio team that presently resides in the league’s basement with only 23 points.

Conversely the Marlies, with two wins this weekend, could tie division leader Abbotsford.

Hear are my notes ahead ...

Toronto vs Lake Erie - Jake Gardiner, Mike Zigomanis, Brad Ross

It’s going to be tight.

It’s a fact of today’s American Hockey League that head coach Dallas Eakins has been reminding his team of all along. It has also become a reoccurring theme during his post-game public address to the media.

Wednesday’s game in Cleveland against the Monsters demonstrates this perfectly.

Lake Erie sits in the 13th spot of 15 teams in the AHL’s Western Conference. With a glance down the standings, Lake Erie’s 26 points is only two back of an 8th place poll position. One win. A jump to ...

Toronto vs Hamilton - Nazem Kadri and Keith Aucoin

The latest in the rivalry series has dropped.

Centring around the premise that a singular team’s success fuels rivalry, this edition of Rivalry: Marlies/Bulldogs¬†walks through the post-season success that both the Toronto and Hamilton teams have found in recent years. It’s nutty when you think of it. The Bulldogs won the Calder Cup in ’07. The Marlies storm back and go on a run to the conference finals in ’08 taking the first two series in seven games. Both teams make the playoffs in 2009. Hamilton goes ...

Toronto vs Abbotsford - Nazem Kadri

When I think of the Abbotsford Heat, do you want to know what I think of?

I recall three straight seasons the Marlies closed out against their west coast rival, two without a hope of the post-season.

I remember Greg Scott notching his his first career hat-trick in Abbotsford.

Above all, I am taken back to the very moment the Marlies new they were heading to the conference finals; having scored an overtime goal to take their fourth straight against the Heat. In a recent chat with Mike Zigomanis, the goal scorer, he ...

Toronto vs Rochester - Jerry D'Amigo

You’ve waited long enough, you may have the hockey season back now.

We are all just a little spoiled, don’t you think? We were able to root for a team right through the middle of June. That said, the symptoms associated with mid-August hockey withdrawal didn’t seem any less torturous. Making us all that much more appreciative that hockey is back at Ricoh.

This should make for a fun season.

The Marlies start right where they finished last season; at home. With the opening of the 2012/13 season, Toronto will play host to ...

Toronto Marlies vs Hamilton Bulldogs

I was always a fan of TV mini-series.

A television show (sitcom, drama or otherwise) which ran a half season would consist of 13 episodes. To put that into context; including two preseason meetings, the Toronto Marlies will face the Hamilton Bulldogs 14 times between October and April. This has enough content to be a prime-time Emmy award winner.

QEW rivals Toronto and Hamilton square off in their first of 14 meetings – which also happens to kick off both of their preseason schedules – Saturday at 7:00pm in Cobourg.

Looking back over ...
