When significant distance lays between opponents, the American Hockey League may switch the format of the seven game series from the accustomed 2-2-1-1-1 to a modified 2-3-2. In effect cutting out a trip by giving the lower seeded team three at home.

And that’s where we find ourselves today. Grand Rapids returns home having split the first two games in Toronto and the Griffins now have three straight on home soil ahead of them.

This however is not unfamiliar territory for the Marlies. After a long […]

Toronto vs Grand Rapids - Will Acton

It’s interesting looking around the league and seeing some familiar faces as the playoffs enter the second round. Oklahoma City, the very team Toronto met in the conference finals last season, opened their series with a win Thursday. Syracuse, a transplanted Calder Cup winning Norfolk team, too find themselves in the final eight.

And of course there’s the Marlies. The team with unfinished business, left hanging last season as the runner up, motivated to win it all this time around. In the first season after seeing Grand Rapids leave […]

Unfinished Business - Morgan Rielly

Following a trip to the Calder Cup Finals in 2012, which saw the Marlies opponent lift the Calder Cup, members of the Toronto team revisit last season’s journey as they prepare to do it all again this year. Enjoy!

With four games to go in the regular season and playoffs looming, Tuesday’s matchup between the Marlies and Barons brings back memories of the 2012 Western Conference Finals. Oddly enough though, as they way things stand at the moment, it may better reflect the opening round of the 2013 post-season.

Toronto sits in second and although a run for the top spot is possible, eyes right now are on fending off the Griffins only one point behind. Oklahoma City sits seventh. The Barons […]

Marlies are in Milwaukee, and I have six things for you to consider ahead of Saturday’s game:

All thought it was a two point night for Morgan Rielly in his pro debut Friday, but following the game officials removed the youngster’s assist on Spencer Abbott’s tally – I guess he’ll just have to settle for the third period tying goal
Korbinian Holzer collected an assist in his first game since returning to the Marlies, and newcomer Mike Komisarek finished the game with two shots and […]

Tonight’s game is big for a lot of reasons, so hear are six points to keep in mind:

With a victory, the Marlies win streak could be extended to six – a feat that has not been accomplished since March 30 – April 8 last season
A Toronto win and a Grand Rapids loss would move the Marlies into the conference’s second spot
Marlies are without smooth skating defenceman Jake Gardiner and captain Ryan Hamilton, as both have been recalled to the Maple Leafs
Joining the Marlies […]
