Saturday’s win over the St. John’s IceCaps give the Marlies 89 points on the season. Although the Texas Stars have a game in hand over Toronto, they’re both tied for the conference’s top spot.

Of the 19 Marlies that touched the ice, nine of them were rookies. Pretty fancy, huh? Rookie goalie, rookie defencemen, and even an all-rookie forward line.

And the rookies put on a show. Check it for yourself.

Toronto vs Hamilton - Greg Scott

And for the very last time this season I get to say… tonight the Toronto Marlies take on their AHL rival, Hamilton.

Wow, does twelve games ever go by fast. Fourteen if you include preseason.

Barring a miraculous rise to a playoff position by the Bulldogs, Tuesday will be the final meeting between the two teams until the 2013/14 season commences in October. The season may not have had the flash of the outdoor game, but it certainly was filled with its fair share of drama.

How about the time when ...

It’s neat. Having access to the rookies as they experience things for the first time.

I feel like it is the closest we can get to experiencing it ourselves – whether it be a training camp, a first game or a road trip. For the newcomers, it hasn’t become routine. The novelty hasn’t worn off.

So to hear their expressions – the parts they find funny, or hard, or exciting, or challenging – seem incredibly genuine.

Toronto v Hamilton - Scott

The boys are back in town.

The Marlies return home Saturday to face the Hamilton Bulldogs in what has begun to feel like a weekly affair. It’s the fifth game between the two rivals of the fledgling regular season, with two more tacked on in preseason.

After battling hard to tie it on Friday, two goals in 34 seconds sealed the fate of the Marlies in the third period, giving the Bulldogs their first win in four games and handing Toronto their first loss in five. After having traveled to six different ...

Toronto - Nazem Kadri, Greg Scott, Ryan Hamilton

With the Royal road trip well under way, the Marlies turn to Texas to start stringing together some serious wins.

Houston’s first up. Perhaps it’s a good thing. Toronto was two for two against the Aeros last season. In fact, in their game this time last year Mark Owuya made his first AHL start. After allowing an early goal and perhaps shaking some of the nerves, the Marlies notched six straight tallies. Rookie Matt Frattin potted the overtime winner.

This time around, their meeting comes on a Thursday night with a 8pm ...

TORivals - Hamilton

Been working on yet another new project.

Rivals: Marlies/Bulldogs looks at one of the best AHL battles rooted deep in the NHL’s history. Reflecting on decades of Leafs & Habs feuds, leading up through the success of their affiliates while in Toronto and Hamilton, all culminating in this season’s Boxing Day Classic taking place between the Marlies and Bulldogs at ACC on December 26th.

Walking us through this rivalry is Ryan Hamilton, Mike Zigomanis, Nazem Kadri, Sylvain Lefebvre, Zack Stortini and of course this guy….

One of the neatest things I discovered ...
