Toronto vs Lake Erie - Jake Gardiner, Mike Zigomanis, Brad Ross

It’s going to be tight.

It’s a fact of today’s American Hockey League that head coach Dallas Eakins has been reminding his team of all along. It has also become a reoccurring theme during his post-game public address to the media.

Wednesday’s game in Cleveland against the Monsters demonstrates this perfectly.

Lake Erie sits in the 13th spot of 15 teams in the AHL’s Western Conference. With a glance down the standings, Lake Erie’s 26 points is only two back of an 8th place poll position. One win. A jump to ...

Toronto vs Grand Rapids - Jussi Rynnas

Usually I’m game for coincidental stats. But this time I’m not too hot on it.

The Marlies are coming off a 4-3 shootout win. It’s only the second time they have seen the shootout this season. The first time was a Sunday home game against Grand Rapids. A contest the Griffins won 4-3.

Do you see what I’m talking about? A little close for comfort.

That said, I’m all about turning a new leaf; putting past demons behind me; and improving on lessons learned. I don’t expect the Marlies to take ...

Toronto vs Rochester - Will Acton

Haven’t had enough of the Americans yet? Well then, you’ve come to the right place.

For the fourth time in two weeks the Marlies will take on divisional foe Rochester. The good news? the previous three have resulted in wins. In fact, including the first round playoff series between the two clubs, Toronto has defeated their Rochester rival in nine straight games. How’s that for a streak?

But unlike the meetings of late, Rochester heads into Saturday’s contest with the confidence of two straight victories behind them. One being to ...

It is another two game week for the Marlies, so it leaves plenty of room for munching on the latest team news!

DESSERT

It could be a two milestone week for the Toronto Marlies Hockey Club. Brad Ross scored his 1st pro goal on Sunday, and it was timely vs. the Abbotsford Heat. Ross tipped in a point shot during the 3rd period that would tie the game at two goals apiece and produce a comeback for Toronto in the game. While the Calgary Flames affiliate spoiled the party, Ross still has ...

Toronto vs Abbotsford - Nazem Kadri

Sunday’s a big game for the Toronto team.

The gap between the Marlies and the first place Heat has continued to narrow. Toronto is now only four points back of Abbotsford and a game with a four point swing (the outcome either shrinking the gap to two points or widening it to six) a favourable end could bring the Marlies within spitting distance of the conference’s top spot.

Although the Abbotsford Heat are no feeble foe – two Toronto losses in British Columbia would attest to that – the divisional adversary has ...

Toronto vs Rochester - Nicolas Deschamps, Mike Zigomanis

I have always found interest in the ebbs and flows of a season. The way the same group of 20 men can climb to such highs and no sooner be forced to face what at times seems to be a complete turn of luck.

Even more intriguing than the ritualistic ups and downs are the nuances of the game completely out of the control of those who make up the team.

Miles traveled, back heavy schedules, hyperactive three-in-three weekends and long rest periods all add to the drama of a ...
