The SiriusXM Hockeytown Winter Festival has come and gone and it was an event to remember. Not only did the Marlies defeat the Grand Rapids Griffins in an exciting 4-3 shootout win (you can read the recap and watch the highlights here), but the #SEAofBLUE and Marlies fans were out in full force representing Toronto loud and proud as evidenced by the persistent “Go Leafs Go!” and “Let’s Go Marlies” chants throughout Comerica Park during the game.

The Toronto Marlies will face a familiar foe when they open the 2013-14 regular season, as they host the reigning Calder Cup Champions the Grand Rapids Griffins this afternoon at 3pm at Ricoh Coliseum. The last time these two teams met was on May 21, 2013 when the Griffins eliminated the Marlies from the post-season with a 4-3 victory.

The Griffins have several returning players from that squad, including captain Jeff Hoggan, defenceman Nathan Paetsch and forward Gustav Nyquist. Grand Rapids opened up the 2013-14 season last night on ...
