Sam Carrick had the winning goal in overtime as the Toronto Marlies defeated the Chicago Wolves 3-2 on Friday evening at the Allstate Arena in Chicago, Illinois, making it the third straight game the Marlies have pushed to extra frames on their extended Boat Show Road Trip.

Special teams made the difference as all 5 goals in the game were scored on the powerplay. David Broll opened the scoring at 19:41 of the first period, with Spencer Abbott extending the lead to 2-0 at 11:29 of the middle frame. ...

The Toronto Marlies (21-11-2-2) continue their road trip tonight in as they take on the Chicago Wolves (20-14-1-2) at Allstate Arena in Chicago at 8:30 pm ET. This will mark the first of second match-ups between the two teams this season.

The Wolves currently sit second in the Midwest Division behind the Grand Rapids Griffins and are coming off of a 3-1 loss to the Griffins this past Wednesday on the road. Corey Locke currently leads the team in scoring with 25 points over 34 games.

DESSERT

It was no ordinary trip through the Midwest division for the Toronto Marlies this past weekend. The group of games through Chicago, Milwaukee and Peoria represented numbers 3,4 and 5 of 7 straight away from Ricoh Coliseum and also brought the total number of states visited to 4 during the stretch of travel/games. However, those are not even the cool stats! The game against the Wolves, followed up by the game vs the Admirals represented to milestone moments for a pair of young Marlies.

Tonight’s game is big for a lot of reasons, so hear are six points to keep in mind:

With a victory, the Marlies win streak could be extended to six – a feat that has not been accomplished since March 30 – April 8 last season

The Marlies continue their four game home stand on Saturday as they host the Chicago Wolves at Ricoh Coliseum as the AHL standings race continues.

It’s the first time the two clubs have met during the course of the 2012/13 campaign, but the significance at this point in time could not be higher. Sitting seventh and eighth in the conference standings, both clubs are focused on avoiding a bump out of the playoff bubble.
