Toronto vs Hamilton - Greg McKegg

It feels like one of those one-liners, except this one starts with “You know the season’s coming to a close when…”

The Marlies prepare to face the Bulldogs for the final time at home this season and any way you look at it, it indicates that this 2012/13 season is slowly coming to a close. Four of the North Division’s five teams are in playoff contention, the Bulldogs being the lone club out.

After a slide that saw the Marlies win only one of six, Saturday’s victory over Hamtilon – a come-from-behind win – could spark a change of course if they are able to make it two in a row against the Bulldogs again on Wednesday. At the striking of midnight on New Year’s Eve, Toronto had occupied the West’s top spot. Though they have fallen to sixth, they have between two and five games in hand on all five teams above them.

Here are my notes ahead of the game:

  • Wednesday’s contest was originally scheduled for 11am but later changed to 7pm
  • Toronto has seven wins in 10 meetings against Hamilton this season
  • Joe Colborne has 13 points over the past 11 games
  • The Bulldogs have won only one in their last eight
  • Hamilton’s Gabriel Dumont has notched two goals over the past three games
  • Tuesday night Marlies graduate Korbinian Holzer scored his first NHL goal with the Maple Leafs

The Toronto Marlies continue their outstanding coverage of the season Wednesday evening as Rogers TV will air all the action in HD, hosted by play-by-play voice Jon Abbott and his partner in crime Bob McGill. For those of you tuning in over the airwaves, TSN 1050 continues in their streak of games hosted on the radio station. As always, AHL Live provides the best option for those watching over the internet. The audio feed is always free and the video costs only a few dollars.
