The Toronto Marlies defeated the Charlotte Checkers by a score of 5-2 on Saturday at Time Warner Cable Arena to complete the season sweep, going a perfect 4-0 against the Checkers this season.

Greg McKegg opened the scoring for the Marlies at 5:54 of the first period, earning what would the first of three points (1 goal, 2 assists) for him in the game. Chris Terry tied it for the Checkers early in the second period on a power play goal. The Marlies would grab a 2-1 lead when Carter Ashton scored at 11:48 of the second period, notching his second point of the game. Tyler Biggs made it 3-1 just 21 seconds later. Brett Sutter would score for the Checkers before the end of the frame, but two goals from the Marlies in the third, including Ashton’s second goal of the game and an empty net goal from Kenny Ryan would seal the Marlies victory.

The Marlies will take a break for the holidays before returning to action on Thursday, December 26th when they take on the Hamilton Bulldogs for the Boxing Day Classic at Air Canada Centre. Puck drop is at 1pm and the first 10,000 fans will receive a Marlies hat presented by Scotiabank. Limited tickets are still available.
