The Toronto Marlies (16-10-2-1) and Grand Rapids Griffins (22-7-1-1) will be taking it outside as they meet outdoors at Comerica Park today at 5pm as part of the SiriusXM Hockeytown Winter Festival. This will be the second of four meetings between the two teams this season. The last time that the Marlies and Griffins met was on October 5th for the Marlies home opener where they defeated the Griffins 4-3 in overtime.
The Griffins are coming off of a 4-2 win over the Rockford IceHogs on the road on Friday. With the win, the Griffins extended their lead in the Midwest Division and currently sit second in the Western Conference. Today’s game at Comerica Park will mark the very first outdoor game for the Griffins in franchise history.
The Marlies last game was also on Friday where they fell to the Bulldogs in Hamilton by a score of 4-2. Despite the loss, the Marlies still have a one point lead over the Bulldogs for first place in the North Division.
This will be the second excursion outdoors for the Marlies as they previously faced off against the Hamilton Bulldogs at Ivor Wynne Stadium back on January 21, 2012 where they defeated the Bulldogs 7-2.
