The Toronto Marlies defeated the San Antonio Rampage by a score of 5-4 in the shootout today in front of a crowd of 7,851 students and teachers from the Toronto District School Board at Ricoh Coliseum.
It was a back and forth contest throughout the game between the two teams. Jerry D’Amigo opened the scoring at 7:38 of the opening period with Drew Shore tying it less than a minute later. D’Amigo gave the Marlies the lead on the power play at 1:18 into the second period with his second goal of the game. The Rampage would score two goals in the second period to jump out to a 3-2 lead, but Korbinian Holzer tied up the game once again just before the end of the second period. The Marlies and Rampage traded goals in the third period with Ryan Martindale and Brad Ross scoring for their teams to make it 4-4 going into overtime. With overtime solving nothing, the game went into a shootout with Jerry D’Amigo scoring the winner for the Marlies in the sixth round.
The Marlies will play the 2nd game in a 10-game home stand on Friday, February 7th when they host the Grand Rapids Griffins at Ricoh Coliseum. Puck drop is at 7pm, tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling the team’s ticket line at 416-597-PUCK (7825).
