The Toronto Marlies defeated the Rockford IceHogs by a score of 3-2 at BMO Harris Bank Center on Monday afternoon for Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Rockford. Spencer Abbott had three points in the game, including a goal and two assists, while T.J. Brennan and Greg McKegg also tallied a goal and an assist each.
Alex Broadhurst opened the scoring at 11:13 of the first period to put the IceHogs up 1-0. The Marlies got on the boarrd in the 2nd period when Greg McKegg netted his 7th goal of the season on a Marlies powerplay. The Marlies extended their lead to 2-1 off of a Spencer Abbott goal. T.J. Brennan made it 3-1 for the Marlies once again on the powerplay in the 3rd period. Joakim Nordstrom got the IceHogs within one in the final frame, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Marlies would go on to win the contest 3-2.
