Game 1 of the QEW Rivalry goes to Toronto as the Marlies defeated the Hamilton Bulldogs tonight by a score of 5-3 in the team’s first pre-season match-up against their long standing rivals.

Jerry D’Amigo, who was wearing one of the A’s for the team this evening, opened the scoring at 2:07 of the first period with Greg McKegg adding a second goal less than a minute later. Hamilton would come back to tie it 2-2 to end the first.

Wade MacLeod earned his first goal of the preseason and was the lone goal scorer in the second to give the Marlies a 3-2 lead. Stefan Fournier would tie it for Hamilton in the third, but the Marlies would regain the lead again thanks to Spencer Abbott. D’Amigo added an empty net goal to guarantee the 5-3 Marlies victory.

The rematch is set for tomorrow night for the two teams at the Cobourg Community Centre. Puck drop is at 7pm and tickets are still available.
