Kids are small. This is not a revelation but we often don’t see them because they are small. Except if you see the Marlies walk to and from their dressing room during games. The players and coaches are all great at connecting with the youngest fans. So how come everything that gets written get written for the typical, older, sports fan? Lets try and rectify that.

It’s a crazy thing to try and write for kids. It’s one of those things that is simple and complicated at the same time. Finding ...

Wade MacLeod is playing for the Marlies six months after having a brain tumor removed.

Wade MacLeod’s not really a fighter, at least not in the conventional hockey sense.

Wade MacLeod is playing for the Marlies six months after having a brain tumor removed.

MacLeod has averaged a minor penalty every couple of pro games but the Marlies 26-year-old winger is authoring one of the compelling stories of the AHL season.

MacLeod was playing at home for the Springfield Falcons, last February against Adirondack when he absorbed a hard hit into the boards. He remembers the hit, remembers being carted away via stretcher and ferried to hospital ...

The annual Toronto Maple Leafs Prospect Camp was held in mid July and the future of the organization was on full display.

There are some in the group that will make the jump to the AHL next season and perhaps one or two that will even hit NHL ice very soon. There are also a crop to keep an eye on, as they work closer to a spot pro’s and mature their game, along the way.

Of the 34 players invited to camp, here are a few to pencil into your notebooks ...

The AHL is a development league. Turnover is expected and often happens on a year to year basis. The Marlies, a recent exception, have done a great job keeping a core group of players over the past three seasons. That group have played a big part in not only attaining success at the farm team level, but have also aided in translating that success to the Maple Leafs and NHL levels.  That said, change is inevitable.

When the Toronto Marlies introduced Steve Spott as the new head coach of the hockey team this July, it not only symbolized  a replacement for Dallas Eakins, but a changing of the guard in terms of roster formation. The team is getting younger. New talent will be moved in and groomed. A new path will be forged and Spott enters at perhaps the perfect time.

Spott offers plenty of connections to our great city. He is a Toronto native that played in the Leafs farm system when they had an ...
