Hamilton native Spencer Abbott is a late bloomer making waves with the  Marlies.

There are two kinds of speed that propel professional hockey players.

The speed of the brain and the speed of the feet.

The Marlies’ Spencer Abbott has the first. He is working on the second.

The second-year forward has registered at least a point in all nine games he has played. Abbott has a goal and 11 assists and sits second in team scoring behind defenceman T.J. Brennan who is in the middle of the season of a lifetime that […]

Stuart Percy heads up the ice during a September exhibition game.

Stuart Percy and Petter Granberg both have something to prove.

The Maple Leafs chose Petter Granberg in the fourth round of the 2010 entry draft.

Percy wants to illustrate to the Maple Leafs they made the right choice when they made him a first-round selection, 25st overall in 2011.

Petter Granberg, meanwhile, hopes to reinforce the idea the Leafs were wise to choose him, if belatedly, in the fourth round (116th overall) in 2010.

It is part of our national character that about the time we are prodded into going outside in winter we begin heckling those who remain indoors.

And so the Toronto Marlies, Hamilton Bulldogs and 20,655 people who visited Ivor Wynne Stadium in Hamilton, many for the first time, have a message.

Nah-nah-nah-nah-nah.

The AHL’s Outdoor Classic was just that; an event positioned somewhere between novelty act and intense Canadiana. That the Marlies beat the Bulldogs 7-2 was nice for the visitors but really, you just had to be there.

“That was awesome,” said Marlie […]

Marlies Jerry D'Amigo and Korbinian Holzer clown around at Ivor Wynne Stadium. The Marlies and Hamilton Bulldogs meet Saturday at 1 p.m. in the AHL Outdoor Classic.

You had to take a physical when you immigrated to Canada in the mid 1960s and so it was that only hours after setting foot here Helena King was telling her husband Sam she was pregnant.

Helena was shocked. Sam was too. The two had just arrived, two children in tow, from Edinburgh. Sam has said more once that had they known another child […]
