The annual Boxing Day Classic has arrived! The Toronto Marlies (16-9-1-1) will be taking on their North Division rivals, the Hamilton Bulldogs (12-14-0-1) today at 1pm at Air Canada Centre in what has become an annual tradition for the Marlies.
Last year, the Marlies and Bulldogs faced one another in front of over 18,000 fans and set a new record for indoor attendance in Canada in the AHL. The Marlies defeated the Bulldogs 3-2 in that tilt, and will be looking for a similarly favourable result this afternoon.
The Bulldogs are coming off of a 3-2 loss against the Abbotsford Heat at home on Sunday, December 22nd. Joonas Nattinen had two points in the victory while goaltender Dustin Tokarski made 39 saves in the loss. With a record of 12-14-0-1, the Bulldogs currently sit 4th in the North Division.
The first place Marlies last hit the ice on Saturday, December 21st in Charlotte where they defeated the Checkers by a score of 5-2, sweeping their season series against the Checkers. Greg McKegg and Carter Ashton both had 3 points in the victory while Drew MacIntyre made 36 saves in the win. T.J. Brennan and Spencer Abbott continue to lead the team in points with 27.
